NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team finished tied for third place at the 17-team Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, S.C., Sunday. The Sooners logged a 56-hole 885 (+33) at the par-71, 6,142-yard Long Cove Golf Club.

Oklahoma was in ninth place after Friday’s first round and moved into sixth place entering Sunday’s final round. No. 3-ranked Duke won the event, shooting an 862 (+10), and was followed by No. 14 Vanderbilt (+20) in second. No. 21 LSU joined the Sooners in third place. The tournament featured 13 squads ranked in Golfweek's top 30.

OU seniors Anne-Catherine Tanguay and Chirapat Jao-Javanil shot a final-round 72 (+1) and were the team’s top finishers on the weekend. Tanguay placed eighth out of 89 competitors after totaling a three-round 216 (+3). It was her second best finish of the season. Jao-Javanil tied for 15th place with a 220 (+7).

Senior Emily Collins shot a day-three 79 (+4), tying for 49th place overall with a 54-hole 229 (+16). Senior Kaitlyn Rohrback and freshman Alexandra Kaui tied for 54th place, each finishing with a 230 (+17). Rohrback logged a 73 (+2) Sunday while Kaui shot a 74 (+3).

Fifth-year Sooners head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she was pleased with her team’s progress throughout the weekend.

“We played better today and moved up the leaderboard,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “I’m proud of the way we fought all the way until the last putt dropped. This was such a strong field and for us to improve each day should give us confidence going forward. Anne-Catherine played well this tournament. She’s worked really hard the last few weeks and is playing with confidence moving forward toward the postseason.”

The Sooners will return to the course next weekend (March 16-18) at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
