NORMAN, Okla. -- The 14th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s golf team is in sixth place after 36 holes at the elite Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Nev. The 15-team, 54-hole event is being played at the 7,510-yard, par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The Sooners carded a second-round 311 (+23), giving them a 607 (+31) total. The prestigious tournament features the top five teams in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, and all 15 teams are ranked in the Golfweek top 50.
No. 37 UNLV, who is hosting the event, tops the leaderboard after carding a 592 (+16). No. 10 Stanford sits in second with a 594 (+18) total. First-ranked Alabama and No. 19 UCLA are tied for third place, logging 22-over 598s, and No. 3 Oklahoma State rounds out the top five with a two-round 601 (+25).
Michael Schoolcraft tops the Sooner lineup, recording a second-round 73 (+1). The senior shot a first-round 74 (+2) to total 147 (+3). He is tied for fourth place individually. On Saturday, Schoolcraft parred 15 holes and pocketed a birdie.
Junior Charlie Saxon followed Schoolcraft on the day, logging a 77 (+5) after shooting a 3-over 75 in the first round. Saxon is tied for 27th place overall with his 152 (+8) total.
Michael Gellerman registered a second-round 80 (+8) to give him a 10-over 154 total after 36 holes. The junior is tied for 37th place individually.
Sophomore Beau Titsworth shot a 12-over-par 84 on the day after posting a 73 (+1) for the first round. He is tied for 48th place with a 157 (+13) total, while freshman Max McGreevy sits in 55th place after recording a 9-over 81 Saturday, bringing his total to 158 (+14)
The third and final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters will start Sunday at 7 a.m. CT. OU will be paired with Alabama and Oklahoma State with tee times beginning at 10:45 a.m. Live stats (updated every three holes) are available at GolfStat.com.
