NORMAN, Okla.—No.5 Oklahoma earned its ninth win of the season Friday night, topping No.17 Kentucky 5-2 at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
“We made a lot of corrections after the doubles just from an attitude standpoint,” head coach John Roddick said. “I was proud of the guys for making that change, it’s not that easy to make that kind of a change in the middle of a match.”
All of the first four singles points were earned with straight set wins.
Junior Dane Webb grabbed the first point for the Sooners, ousting Jerry Lopez 6-2, 6-2
Webb’s doubles partner, Andrew Harris followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Beck Pennington.
In the No. 6 spot, senior Peerakit Siributwong defeated Ryuju Hirooka 6-2, 6-0, putting the Sooners up 3-1.
Sophomore Axel Alvarez sealed the Sooner victory with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Alejandro Gomez.
Alex Ghilea earned the final singles point of the night, beating Grant Roberts 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(10-7).
“They did everything we asked them to do as far as coming out in singles with energy and playing aggressive and playing to win,” Roddick said.
