NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma freshman Colin Van Wicklen was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The honor is the first for Van Wicklen, who won the floor title at the Metroplex Challenge last Saturday against No. 3 Stanford, posting a career-high 15.550. That score tied for the third highest by any gymnast in the nation this year, and led a 76.500 team total, second-best nationally. Van Wicklen also earned a 15.000 on vault to take second in that event, in addition to a 14.500 on high bar.
Van Wicklen is currently fifth on floor and sixth on vault in the national rankings for the No. 1-ranked Sooners.
Van Wicklen will join a group of Sooners competing at the Winter Cup starting Thursday, Feb. 20.
The award is the second by an OU gymnast this year after senior Presten Ellsworth earned the honor last week.
