PHOENIX, Ariz. – A low-scoring affair did not go the way of No. 11/7 Oklahoma (5-4) on Sunday afternoon as it fell to No. 3/3 Washington, 3-1, at the Littlewood Classic.

The Huskies (10-0) entered the contest averaging 10.1 runs per game and had outscored opponents 52-2 in its four preceding games at the Littlewood Classic, but the combination of sophomores Kelsey Stevens and Taylor Dewbery held them in check Sunday.

Stevens got the start and allowed three runs in four innings before being lifted for Dewbery. Stevens allowed seven hits, including a home run, while walking four and striking out one. Dewbery limited UW to just one hit over the final two innings.

Unfortunately for the Sooners, their offense was held in check by Washington starter Bryana Walker. The senior struck out 14 batters on three hits and allowed one unearned run.

Washington threatened in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with one out. The Sooners got out of it though as Stevens got Hooch Fagaly to foul out to catcher Whitney Ellis and then Whitney Jones to hit into a 4-6 putout at second base.

While Washington was unable to capitalize on its bases-loaded situation, Oklahoma did just that in the top of the second.

Junior Shelby Pendley led off with a single up the middle and moved up to second on a wild pitch as senior Brittany Williams struck out. A groundout moved Pendley to third before sophomore Leslie Miller was hit by a pitch and junior Jessica Vest was hit by a pitch to fill the bases.

Ellis then stepped in and sent a grounder to Ali Aguilar at shortstop, but Aguilar was unable to field it cleanly and all runners were safe, giving OU the 1-0 lead.

Vest led the Sooners offense by reaching safely in all three plate appearances. In addition to her walk, she also record a pair of infield singles to mark the third two-hit game of her career.

The lead would not last for long though as Washington came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Courtney Gano led off with a walk and advanced to third on a double by Kelli Suguro. A single to left field by Victoria Hayward tied the game at 1-1, while Aguilar singled to right field on the very next pitch to put UW in front.

Washington added another run in the fifth inning as Kylee Lahners led off with a solo home run to left center, prompting a pitching change that brought Dewbery into the contest.
