Norman, Okla.-- The final tune up before the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships for the Sooner track and field teams is Saturday. OU will head to College Station and the home of former Big 12 member Texas A&M for the Texas A&M Invitational. Current Sooner head coach Jim VanHottegem spent nine years with the Aggie track and field program before bringing his talents to the Norman campus.

Eight teams will be in attendance at the meet, including three teams ranked in the top 25 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Sooner men will face No. 4 Texas A&M; No. 2 Florida and No. 22 Georgia, while the women will face No. 3 Texas A&M; No. 4 Florida and No. 5 Georgia.

The invitational will be held at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, which has hosted Big 12 Indoor track and field championships as well as an NCAA Indoor track and field championship.

“This a really good meet for us on our schedule,” said VanHootegem.  “After taking a smaller group to New York last week, we are taking a full squad down to Texas A&M. There will be some really strong competition at a great facility which has hosted NCAA Championship meets.”

Last week’s trip to the Armory Collegiate Invitational produced several personal outstanding individual performances. Molly Ferguson-Williams, Hayden McClain, Abbabiya Simbassa and Daye Shon Roberson recorded times that moved each of them into the all-time OU list. The Sooner coaches are looking for continued improvement in the final competition before the conference meet.

“As coaches, we are really looking forward to seeing each of our athletes take some sort of step forward in what is our last team competition before the Indoor Big 12 Championships,” said  VanHootegem.

Meet results will be posted on and there will be a full recap on
