OU Hits the Diamond for Day One
January 24, 2014

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma baseball team took the field at L. Dale Mitchell Park for the first spring practice of the Pete Hughes era, Friday afternoon. The temperature reach the mid 40s without a cloud in the sky and a steady breeze throughout the ballpark, far from the dog days the Sooners will face come the end of the season when they head towards postseason play.

Hughes and his newly assembled staff, including assistants Mike Anderson, Jamie Pinzino and Ryan Connolly, put the Sooner players through multiple fielding drills, while some pitchers took bullpen sessions on the side.

The last hour of practice was dedicated to batting practice as the Sooners took their turns in the cage and was capped off with a home run over the right field wall by freshman Niko Buentello to end the day.
