NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 9 Oklahoma started 2014 with a 7-0 win over the Wichita State Tuesday at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion.
The Sooners (1-0) won the doubles point against the Shockers in less than 30 minutes with wins at the No.1 and No. 3 positions.
At the No. 1 position Sooner tandem Andrew Harris and Dane Webb claimed the first doubles win for OU, ousting Tomislav Gregurovic and Tin Ostojic 6-0.
Peerakit Siributwong and Nick Papac played at the No. 3 position and secured the Sooners doubles point, beating Guillermo de Vilchez and Guillermo Nicol 6-2.
OU then strung together six wins in singles play.
In the No. 3 position, Webb grabbed the first win for the Sooners, sweeping Gregurovic 6-2, 6-2.
Sophomore Austin Siegel collected the second singles point, defeating Nicol 6-1, 6-1.
ITA No. 5 Guillermo Alcorta clinched the Sooner victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ostojic.
Alvarez and freshman Alex Ghilea battled it out to three sets in their respective singles matches. Both Sooners prevailed with Alvarez beating Ostojic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Ghilea ousting Jocelyn Devilliers 6-0, 5-6, 6-3.
Up next, OU hosts the ITA Kick-Off this weekend. The Sooners play Virginia Tech in their opening match, Saturday at 2 p.m.
