NORMAN, Okla. -- The outstanding performances keep coming from across the board for the No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team.
Just days after the Sooners topped Iowa State in their conference-opening meet of 2014, Lara Albright and Erica Brewer earned recognition from the Big 12 for their contributions this week. Albright was named the conference's Event Specialist of the Week, while Brewer earned her second-straight Gymnast of the Week honor.
Brewer rolled to her second all-around title in as many weeks for OU, posting a 39.425 to take top honors at the meet. She also won event titles on beam (9.825) and tied for the bars title (9.85) with teammates Haley Scaman and Taylor Spears. Brewer posted a career-high on vault (9.875) to aid the Sooners to a 49.400 on the event. The award marks the Louisville, Ky., native's second this season and fifth of her career.
Hailing from Carollton, Texas, Albright tied her career-high on floor exercise in her second appearance this season. The senior competed in the crucial lead-off position for OU, sparking her team to a 49.200 overall on the event and winning the individual event title on the night. Albright's honor is the second of her career.
The top-ranked Sooners will head west for their first road meet of the season this weekend. OU is set to face No. 17 Arizona on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. CT in Tucson, Ariz.
