NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma redshirt senior Andrew Howe has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Monday night. The honor marks OU’s second of the season as Travis Rutt was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Month last week.
Howe, who is from Cedar Lake, Ind., is competing for the Sooners for the first time this season after transferring from Wisconsin and redshirting last year.
As the No. 1 seed at 174 pounds, Oklahoma redshirt senior Andrew Howe paved his way to the 2013 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational finals in convincing fashion, winning by a fall in 3:47, a 16-6 major decision, a fall in 4:24 and a 16-4 major decision.
In the final round, Howe topped the No. 2 seed Robert Kokesh of Nebraska by a 3-2 decision to claim the 174-pound title.
Howe’s performance helped the fourth-ranked Sooners claim the team title at the tournament with 154.5 points, 24 points ahead of second-place and 10th-ranked Nebraska.
On the 2013-14 season, Howe is a perfect 12-0.
