Andrew Harris is one of the newest members of the men’s tennis team. He hails from down under in Melbourne, Australia. The newcomer comes to OU with an impressive resume, winning the 2012 Junior Wimbledon Championships and the 2012 Rolland Garros Junior French Championships.
What is your favorite thing about OU?
AH: The football games and Headington Hall. Headington’s facilities are amazing, it’s like a five star hotel here. And for football games, the atmosphere is amazing. There really is nothing like it.”
Coming from Australia what’s your biggest adjustment?
AH: “Living away from home for such a long time. I’m going back in December for Christmas but after that I’ll be gone for a year. Managing school and tennis at the same time is also difficult. In Australia I did my school stuff online so here, it’s harder to manage.”
If you don’t play professional tennis, what are your goal aspirations?
AH: “I want to major in business management and I’m just going to keep my options open.”
If you could play tennis against professional player who would it be?
AH: “Rafael Nadal. He’s my favorite tennis player and I love watching him compete.”
Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever been?
AH: “Definitely Switzerland because it was just really beautiful. All the lakes and mountains, I’d never seen anything quite like it.”
When did you start playing tennis?
AH: “When I was either four or five. My mom was a professional tennis player and my dad was a coach. I was kind of born into it.”
Why did you choose OU over other schools?
AH: “I also visited the University of Southern California and Tennessee. I just thought that Coach Roddick would be the best coach to develop my game and make me a better player.”
What are your personal goals for the season?
AH: “I want to develop my game and become a better player.”
Who is your favorite musician?
AH: I like Avicii a lot. I just love his music and house music in general.”
