NORMAN, Okla. -- The fifth-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team topped Bucknell 38-6 Sunday night at the McCasland Field House to improve to 4-0 on the season in a dual during which redshirt senior Andrew Howe claimed his 100th career victory.

It was OU’s second dual of the day after defeating Hofstra 36-6 Sunday afternoon. OU head coach Mark Cody said he was pleased with how the Sooners performed in both of their duals against “very highly touted teams,” but he still sees room for improvement.

“I felt pretty good about both wins, and I felt like they wrestled very aggressively,” Cody stated after the Bucknell dual. “I think there is a lot we need to work on, but we can pull a lot out of meets like this as far as some of those things. I think there were certain situations where we could have challenged ourselves a little bit more out there, and if we do that, it is going to make the team better.”

No. 1 Howe defeated senior Stephen McPeek of Bucknell by technical fall at 174 pounds, 19-3, for his 100th career win, an accomplishment of which Howe said he is proud.

Cody said that Howe is “the total package” who is committed to his training and lifestyle.

“We are really happy for him, and it is no surprise to anybody,” Cody shared. “A lot of those matches were probably technical falls or falls because he is very aggressive. It is just a lifestyle for him.”

The dual against Bucknell began with the 125-pound match. Redshirt senior and fifth-ranked Jarrod Patterson registered a 10-4 decision against sophomore Paul Petrov. Patterson had four takedowns in the bout and accumulated 2:29 riding time.

At 133 pounds, redshirt sophomore and No. 5 Cody Brewer earned a 4:29 fall against freshman Grim Gonzalez.

Redshirt senior Nick Lester fell to Bucknell freshman Victor Lopez by a 5:56 fall in the 141-pound matchup.

The 149-pound bout featured redshirt senior Kendric Maple and junior Alex Pellicciotti. Maple, who is ranked second, struck first with a takedown and went on to claim the match by a 12-2 major decision.

Redshirt freshman Clark Glass topped sophomore Rustin Barrick by a 12-2 decision at 165 pounds.

Freshman Danny Chaid added another fall for the Sooners, defeating freshman Rory Bonner by a 2:48 fall at 184 pounds.

In the 197-pound bout, redshirt senior and fifth-ranked Travis Rutt topped Bucknell’s Tyler Lyster by major decision, 12-3.

The 285-pound match pitted ranked opponents against each other in No. 16 Ross Larson of OU and No. 13 Joe Stolfi of Bucknell. Larson, a redshirt freshman, won by decision, 9-6.

The Sooners return to action in the Oklahoma Open, which is slated for Friday, Nov. 29, and Saturday, Nov. 30. The tournament is held in Tulsa, Okla. OU's  next home dual is Sunday, Dec. 1, when it welcomes Oklahoma State to McCasland Field House for Bedlam.
