NORMAN, Okla. – Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin (Midwest City, Okla.) hit a match-high .476 and was one of four Sooners to tally 10 kills in a 3-0 win over TCU in front of 1,093 at McCasland Field House, Wednesday night. The win propelled, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team to 19-7 overall and 7-5 in the Big 12 as it snapped a season-high three-match losing streak.
“We got a good win under our belts,” began head coach Santiago Restrepo. “Hopefully we can get another win against Baylor and then hit the road and play well on the road.”
The straight sets victory was the 10th of the season as it came by scores of 26-24, 25-22 and 25-18. The Sooners led by four at 20-16, but found themselves trailing, 24-23, after a Horned Frogs rally before claiming the last three points, including kills by senior Keila Rodriguez (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) and redshirt-freshman Madison Ward.
“[The attack] was pretty balanced,” continued Restrepo. “Overall we have played pretty solid each week and practices have been pretty well and today it translated into the game.”
Rodriguez and Ward both totaled 10 kills in the match, with Rodriguez recording her team-leading ninth double-double of the season in a 16-dig effort. Sophomore outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas) was the fourth OU attacker to reach double figures with 10.
“I thought for Taylor [Migliazzo] and Keila [Rodriguez] to dig that many balls was pretty incredible.”
For TCU (15-12, 3-9), Stephanie Holland hit .333 with 12 kills. Alexia Heist led the team with 16 assists, while Trisha Langley added 14 off the bench. Shane Peters notched a team-high 14 digs, while Natalie Gower totaled a match-high five blocks.
