Hunnicutt a Groza Award Semifinalist
November 04, 2013

NORMAN, Okla. – The Palm Beach County Sports Commission named Oklahoma’s Michael Hunnicutt as one of the 20 semifinalists for the 2013 Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl Committee.

Hunnicutt serves as one of Oklahoma’s team captains and has connected on 16 of 18 field goal attempts this season, giving him an 88.9 conversion percentage, the nation’s third-highest mark (minimum 15 attempts). Only three kickers from FBS schools have made more field goals than Hunnicutt, who has also connected on 26 of 27 extra point attempts.

A midseason All-America pick by Sports Illustrated and CBSSports.com, Hunnicutt holds the Oklahoma career record with 54 career made field goals. He currently ranks 10th on the Sooners’ career scoring chart with 300 points, 54 of 63 (.857) field goals and 138 of 141 (.979) PATs in his career.

Semifinalists will be voted on by FBS head coaches and SIDs, past Lou Groza Award finalists, as well as national and regional football writers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on Nov. 25 and honored at the 22nd annual Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Awards Banquet on Dec. 10 in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The winner will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec.12. The award is named in honor of Lou Groza, one of the all-time great kickers in football history.
