Kaui Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month
October 30, 2013

NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma freshman Alexandra Kaui was named the Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for October, the conference announced Wednesday.

Kaui led the Sooners in each of three of their October tournaments and posted a 71.1 (-0.22) stroke average. In OU’s first two tournaments of the month, the freshman tied for 10th place at the Schooner Fall Classic and for 19th at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. OU finished second and third in those events, respectively.

Kaui saved her best performance for the Alamo Invitational played this past weekend in San Antonio, Texas. Kaui carded a school-record 206 (-10) in the event, finishing in second place. She finished with a bogey-free 7-under-par 65 in the third round, also a school record. Her stellar performance helped propel the team to its first win of the fall season as the Sooners shot a program-best 840 (-24).

The Honolulu, Hawaii, native who now hails from Las Vegas, Nev., pocketed 30 birdies for the month and played two bogey-free rounds in the Alamo Invitational. She is the first Sooner to win the award since Ellen Mueller in October 2010, and the first ever OU freshman to earn the honor.

The Alamo Invitational marked the end of OU’s fall campaign. Kaui and the Sooners return to the course this spring for the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The tournament will be played Feb. 9-11 in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
