NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma’s Andrew Harris advanced the final round of men’s singles play at the USA F27 Futures.
The Australia native continued his win streak Saturday, ousting American Austin Krajicek in straight sets 7-5, 7-5.
“Andrew played the best match I’ve seen him play today,” OU associate head coach Bo Hodge said. “He has a chance to win his first title tomorrow and that’s very exciting. He has a very bright future ahead of him.”
Harris faces former Illinois All-American Dennis Nevolo in the final round Sunday.
Other members of John Roddick’s Sooner squad reached the third round in the main draw of men’s singles play at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Dane Webb defeated Iowa’s Matt Hagan 6-2, 6-4. The junior plays Oral Roberts’ Fabian Zierleyn Sunday.
After dropping his first set, Axel Alvarez rallied against Arkansas’ Manfred Jeske 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Spaniard will battle Drake’s Ravi Patel in the third round.
Nick Papac defeated Razorback Jovan Parlic 6-2, 6-2. Papac plays Oklahoma State’s Vasili Caripi Sunday.
Both Austin Siegel and Alex Ghilea’s runs in the ITA Regionals men’s singles main draw ended Saturday.
Ghilea lost to Oklahoma State’s Vasili Caripi and Siegel fell to Arkansas’ Mike Nott 7-5, 6-3.
Doubles play at the regionals also continued Saturday.
Alvarez and Guillermo Alcorta beat Nebraska’s Marc Herrmann and Beau Treyz 8-6. The Spanish duo faces Oklahoma State’s Brady Bohrnstedt and Sebastian Sachs in the quarterfinals.
Siegel and Webb beat SIU-Carbondale’s Michal Kianicka and Jonny Rigby 8-1. The tandem next plays Arkansas’ Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott.
Ghilea and Papac were knocked out by Oklahoma State’s Vasili Caripi and Lucas Gerch 8-5 in the third round.
