OU Picked Second in Preseason Coaches Poll

NORMAN, Okla. -- After finishing national runners-up last season in 2013, the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team is ranked second in the 2014 preseason coaches poll.

The Sooners earned 147 points, second only to unanimous preseason No. 1 Michigan which had 165 points. The Wolverines are the defending NCAA national champions.

Oklahoma has finished as one of the top three teams in the country in each of the last 13 seasons under OU head coach Mark Williams, winning national championships in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008.

OU's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Stanford came in third while Ohio State and Penn State round out the top five. Fellow MPSF members Cal and Air Force come in at No. 7 and No. 11, respectively.

Oklahoma returns six All-Americans and five individual conference champions from 2013 as the Sooners look to earn the program's ninth national title. OU's season begins at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 11 in Colorado Springs. The Sooners five meets in Norman this season, including the MPSF Championships on March 29. The NCAA Championships are April 10-12 on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
