NORMAN, Okla. – The Sooners visit Lawrence, Kan. for a 6:30 match-up against the Jayhawks. The contest will be aired live on ESPN3.
MATCH NOTES: OKLAHOMA AT KANSAS
1. About the Sooners
Oklahoma is 14-3 overall, and 2-1 in the Big 12 following a thrilling, five-set win over No. 25 Iowa State on Saturday. Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin is hitting a team-best .450, while also leading the way with 3.67 kills and 1.33 blocks per set. Sophomore outside hitter Kierra Holst is second on the team with 3.06 kills per set and a .244 attack rate. Defensively, sophomore libero Taylor Migliazzo leads the Sooners with 3.79 digs per set. As a team, Oklahoma is hitting .254, ranked second in the Big 12, while holding its opponents to .187. The Sooners lead the Big 12 with 16.71 digs per set.
2. Sooners Lead the Series
Oklahoma leads the all-time series, 46-31, but trails, 18-15, when playing on the road. Kansas swept the season-series in 2012, with the Sooners last winning when they swept the season-series in 2011. The series started with a 2-0 OU win in 1976. The longest winning streak in the series is 10, owned by the Sooners between 1982 and 1986.
3. Nearing the Poll
For the second time this season, Oklahoma sits just one spot out of the AVCA Top 25. The Sooners received 79 points, while No. 25 Missouri (18-0) reached the poll with 111. Oklahoma was also in this spot for the September 2 poll after the season’s opening weekend. The Sooners were last ranked on November 7, 2011 at No. 25. Kansas was ranked in the preseason at No. 20. The Jayhawks received 42 points in the most recent poll.
4. Taking Down No. 25
Oklahoma defeated No. 25 Iowa State, 3-2, at McCasland Field House to improve to 2-1 against ranked opponents in 2013. Senior outside hitter Keila Rodriguez registered her team-leading fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 19 kills and 12 digs. McLaurin and Holst were also in double figures for kills with 14 and 12, respectively, while redshirt-freshman Madison Ward chipped in with 11.
5. Bouncing Back
In 2012, the Sooners were 8-2 when returning to the court after a loss, bouncing back in good form, all but twice. This season, Oklahoma has bounced back from its first three losses with 3-1 wins over Portland State and LIU Brooklyn and a 3-2 win over No. 25 Iowa State. The Sooners last lost back-to-back games on November 10 and 14, 2012 with 3-0 defeats to No. 20 Iowa State and No. 22 Kansas.
6. RPI Released
At the onset of week seven of the season, the NCAA released its first RPI rankings. Oklahoma comes in at No. 19 as it seeks its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners have the third highest RPI among Big 12 schools, behind Texas (1) and Kansas (14). Oklahoma is 2-1 against the RPI Top-25, with wins over Arkansas (16) and BYU (17), and 3-2 against the Top-50, including a win over Tulsa (34).
