The Oklahoma wrestling program boasts six returning All-Americans for the upcoming 2013-14 season, and each Tuesday leading up to competition, a different one will be highlighted. This week features redshirt senior Travis Rutt.
The New Prague, Minn., native will be competing with the Sooners for this first time this season. Rutt, who took an Olympic Redshirt in 2011-12, transferred to OU from Wisconsin and redshirted last season.
In his junior season (2010-11) at Wisconsin, Rutt posted a 34-4 overall record and a 17-0 record in duals. He was Wisconsin's starter at 184 pounds and was ranked in the top 12 all season and as high as third. At the NCAA Championships, Rutt posted a 4-2 record and finished seventh, earning him All-America honors.
“With an Olympic year and a redshirt year under his belt, he’s gained knowledge, better technical skills and maturity," OU head coach Mark Cody said. "He is as hungry to win an NCAA Championship as anyone I’ve ever been around.”
Check back next week to hear from redshirt senior Jarrod Patterson, who is returning to OU's lineup after redshirting last season.
