NORMAN, Okla. – The Sooners face a top-five opponent for the 22nd time since 2004 as they visit No. 5 Texas on Saturday for a 3:00 pm showdown.
What to Know Going Into This Weekend's Match:
1. Best Record at the Half-Way Mark
Oklahoma is 13-2 overall, the best 15-match start since going 12-3 in 2007, and 1-0 in the Big 12. The Sooners are 4-1 at home, 5-1 at neutral sites and 4-0 in true road games.
2. All Wins vs. Texas Have Come in the Restrepo Era
The Longhorns own the series with the Sooners, 40-3, including a 20-1 record at home. Oklahoma’s three wins have all since Santiago Restrepo’s arrival at OU with wins in 2006 (3-2), 2008 (3-2) and 2011 (3-2). The two teams met for the first time in 1975; a 2-0 win for Texas.
3. 2008 Upset at No. 3 Texas
Oklahoma recorded a 3-2 win over No. 3 Texas, on the road, on October 29, 2008. The Sooners took the first set, 25-21, then went down to sets to one; falling 25-9 and 25-22. Oklahoma came back for narrow wins of 25-23 and 15-13 to take the match. Caitlin Higgins powered the Sooners to the win with 18 kills, a .311 attack rate and 12 digs.
4. Big 12 Openers
Oklahoma opened conference play with a 3-1 win over Texas Tech on September 25. The Sooners are now 9-9 in Big 12 openers dating back to the league’s inaugural season in 1996. Oklahoma has won each of its last eight since the 2006 season, including a 3-2 win at Texas Tech in 2008, and is 7-2 under Restrepo. In home Big 12 openers, OU is 10-8; having won each of its last six, including a 3-1 win over Texas Tech in 2010.
5. Rodriguez Does It All
Senior outside hitter Keila Rodriguez has been a consistent contributor on both sides of the ball. She is second on the team in digs per set (3.47) and service aces per set (0.27) as well as third in kills per set (2.05) and tied for fourth in blocks per set (0.45). Rodriguez also leads the team with four double-doubles and has recorded one in three of the last five matches, including a 10-kill, 13-dig effort in the Big 12 opener against Texas Tech.
6. McLaurin Leads the Way
Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin anchors a front-lone that is averaging 13.47 kills per set. She leads the way with 3.80, ranking third in the Big 12, and a league-leading .456 hitting percentage. The Sooners second in the league in hitting percentage (.259). McLaurin is also the league leader in blocks with 1.38 per set.
7. Recent Results vs. the Ranked
Oklahoma won its lone match with a ranked opponent so far this season when it defeated No. 25 BYU, 3-2, at the PSU Tournament. BYU was also its most recent defeat to a ranked opponent when the Sooners were knocked out of the NCAA Second Round by the No. 16 Cougars. Prior to that, Oklahoma picked up a 3-1 road win at No. 25 Kansas State to close the 2012 regular season.
