September 24, 2013

NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma sophomore Eric Graf was named the Big 12 Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week by the conference office Wednesday.

Graf finished third overall in his first race of the season on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Missouri Southern Stampede Meet in Joplin, Mo. The Charles Town, W.Va., native led the Sooners to a first-place finish at the event after completing the 8,000-meter course in 24:51.46.

Graf was the West Virginia state runner-up in cross country as a senior and an eight-time all-state selection for track and field.

The award is OU’s first from the conference this season. The last Sooner to be awarded Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Week was Bill Kogel in 2012.

Kansas State’s Laura Galvan, a native of Guanajuato, Mexico, was honored as the women’s runner of the week after placing second (21:24.00) at the 6,000-meter Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.

The Oklahoma men's cross country team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
