NORMAN, Okla. – Axel Alvarez reached the singles semifinals and teamed with Nick Papac to advance to the doubles finals at the Baylor Invitational after matches Saturday.
Alvarez defeated Idaho’s Artemiy Nikitin, 6-0, 6-4, in the Round of 16 and Baylor’s Mate Zsiga, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Alvarez faces Baylor’s Patrick Pradella in front of Pradella’s home crowd Sunday.
Although Papac was defeated in the singles draw, he and doubles partner Alavarez, had a great day on the court and advanced to the doubles finals. The tandem defeated BU’s Mate Zsiga and Diego Galeano in the quarterfinals and BU’s brother duo, Jake and Jarred Wynan in the semis.
Alvarez and Papac will play another brother twosome in the finals, Louisiana-Lafayette’s Hunter and Yates Johnson.
Austin Siegel and Papac fell out of the singles draw. Siegel fell to BU’s Tony Lupieri, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 and another Baylor Bear, Patrick Pradella, defeated Papac in straight sets.
