NORMAN, Okla.-- University of Oklahoma women’s tennis went a combined 3-3 at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. and 2-6  Saturday at the Country Club of Little Rock Invitational in Little Rock, Ark.

Senior Whitney Ritchie and sophomore Emma Devine started their day against the No. 7 ranked team of Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans (William and Mary). The pair fought hard and forced a tiebreaker but ended up falling, 8-7.

After their fall in doubles play, the pair focused on their singles match-ups. In the consolation semifinals, Ritchie defeated Harvard’s June Lee, 7-6, 6-2. Devine, who was the sole singles winner on Friday, fell in the semifinals to South Carolina’s Caroline Dailey 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 to end her singles run.

Sophomore Zita Engbroks and freshman Ann Pepper came back from losses Friday to defeat Sarah Bessen (Dartmouth) 6-4, 6-2 and Narni Summerall 6-4, 6-2, respectively. Engrbroks will compete Sunday in consolation finals play while Pepper will finish out round robin singles.

While Saturday did not end with the best results, head coach David Mullins knows that the team is learning and will improve throughout the season.

"Saturday was another disappointing day results wise but definitely better than Friday, “ Mullins said. “We are learning a lot facing this level of competition so early in the year and it will definitely have us prepared for the rest of the fall season."
