Sooner Report: Monday

This weekend, the Sooners hit the road for the first time this season to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Stoops Press Conference

On the biggest keys to playing Notre Dame:
“I think first turnovers are a huge deal, third down conversions each way, stopping them and us getting them and being able to have good balance, run and pass.”.

From the Red Room

Aaron Colvin, Zack Sanchez and Charles Tapper talk with the media Monday on Notre Dame week.

Mike Stoops Presser

On how practice went during the bye week:
“Well I think you get more in. You’re able to watch more tape. So I would anticipate they will try to break some of their tendencies. So you don’t want to overreact to what you see. You want to be able to counter what they’re seeing and what we’re seeing.

Millard One-on-One

On if playing at a historic program cancels out the awe of playing at Notre Dame:
“I think so. You just know that team has the same tradition behind them and they play with that type of confidence. We will as well.”

Nelson One-On-One

On if there is anything he looks forward to seeing in South Bend:
“I look forward to see how they do things traditionally. I look forward to seeing how their fans are and the atmosphere... It will be exciting to see what they have in store.”

DB Aaron Colvin

On what playing at Notre Dame will be like for him:
“It’s going to be a once in a lifetime experience. It’s my senior year and as a leader, every week is a big game for us. Especially for me, this is my last go-round so I’m not treating this week any differently. I’m going to prepare like it’s going to be my last game.”

DL Chuka Ndule

On remembering the loss from last year:
“If you go to the University of Oklahoma you have a sense of pride. Last year what happened in the fourth quarter they flat out beat us and we didn’t execute. That is in the back of our minds; we’re all prideful players and we have respect for them so we have to get after it.”

DB Zach Sanchez

On the defense having the ability to make the difference in a close game:
“We have the most confidence in each other. We feel like our offense matches up with anyone in the country, so seeing them every day we feel like there is nothing that we haven’t seen and nothing that we can’t stop. We have that much confidence going into this game.”

DL Charles Tapper

On the challenge of playing away for the first time this season:
“It’s going to be way different. We won’t have the fans behind us on third downs so we just hope to keep the stadium quiet. We usually have the stadium rocking so it’s going to be a big difference.”

Ikard One-on-One

On the bye week:
“I thought we got a lot of good reps in practice, especially first-team defense against first-team offense, because of the similar three-man front that Notre Dame runs. We had a couple of the hardest practices of the year, so I thought we got better.”

Mayock Visits Practice

NFL and college football analyst Mike Mayock, who will call this Saturday's OU-Notre Dame game, spent a few minutes with our own Jessica Coody Tuesday in Norman.

WR Jalen Saunders

On the running game helping out wide receivers:
“The running game helps out tremendously because it helps stack the box. We can get five to six yards on every play and it allows for people to get in the box but also a receiver one-on-one.”

OC Josh Heupel

On this week’s game plan:
“Every week for us it’s about getting the ball in the playmakers’ hands and let them make plays. These guys do a great job of rallying the football in first and second downs in man coverage so when you do catch something they’re converging around you. We’ve got to make plays.”

OC Jay Norvell

On if this team is tougher mentally than last year:
I think we have gained a lot of that. I think we’re more physical and because of that I think we play with a little bit different edge. We’re going to need that this Saturday against that style of defense. They’re not fancy. They don’t do any fancy blitzes, they just line up and challenge you to beat them. You have to play with a physical mentality and you have to have great execution.”
