Norman, Okla. -- Despite posting a statistically even effort at the OU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon, the Oklahoma soccer team fell by a score of 5-0 to the North Texas Mean Green in front of a crowd of 326 fans. Forward Rachel Holden put up a hat trick for North Texas (6-2-0) while the Sooners (3-5-0) were unable to capitalize off 13 shots (eight on goal).

"Whether it be individually or collectively, we didn't play as well as we've come to expect our standards to be," head coach Matt Potter said. "When that happens, these things will result. North Texas is a handful. They'll be a handful for any team. It's more about what they did rather than what we didn't. They were just better than us on the day."

North Texas outshot the Sooners by a margin of 8-3 in the first half, including a 5-0 shot on goal advantage. The Mean Green struck first in the contest at the 9:11 mark when Kelsey Hodges sent in a free kick from the right that Amber Haggerty fired past Stade. North Texas boosted their lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute as Haggerty tallied an assist to Rachel Holden for a goal. Though Stade made a stellar save in goal on Haggerty's initial shot, Holden managed to sneak the ball past Stade just moments later.

The Sooners came out firing in the second half, outshooting the Mean Green by a margin of 9-4 while adding eight shots on goal. OU struggled to capitalize on their opportunities as North Texas goalkeeper Haley Riley made eight saves to keep the Sooners off the board. NT's hot streak on offense continued as Holden posted two more goals in the 67th and 72nd minutes of play to earn her second hat trick of the season.

Oklahoma surrendered their final goal of the match as time ran out in the game's final minute. Allison Harper took an assist from Jackie Moreau and put the ball past Stade to set the final score at 5-0.

The Sooners will hit the road next weekend for a pair of road matches in the state of Utah. OU will open the weekend on Thursday, Sept. 19 against No. 6 BYU in Provo, Utah at 8 p.m. CT. The squad will then travel to Salt Lake City to face Utah on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. CT.
