NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling program held its annual Wrestling Reunion weekend Sept. 6-7, and generations of Sooner wrestlers congregated in Norman to partake in the event, which included a golf tournament, dinner and tailgate.
The event started with the Sooner Wrestling Golf Classic Friday afternoon at the Westwood Park Golf Course in Norman. The tournament featured a four-person scramble, shotgun start with prizes awarded to first, second and third place finishers.
Following the golf outing, event attendees made their way to the Chesapeake Energy Stadium Club in Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for dinner.
The alumni weekend continued on Saturday, Sept. 7, with the Varsity O Association Tailgate in McCasland Field House. Each alumnus received two complimentary football tickets to watch the OU football team defeat West Virginia 16-7 in the Big 12 opener Saturday night. Before the tailgate, current Sooner wrestlers participated in open room, which was made public to fans. All proceeds from the weekend went to the OU Takedown Club.
“I feel the reunion was a big success,” OU head coach Mark Cody said. “We have received a lot of positive feedback from our alumni. Hats off to Varsity O for doing such a wonderful job contacting everyone. It helped tremendously in making our golf outing and alumni reunion such a special event.”
