NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma senior center Gabe Ikard has been named a candidate for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award in college football. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award in November. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.

A Preseason All-America pick by Sports Illustrated and ESPN coming into the 2013 season, Ikard has played in 40 career games (38 starts) on the offensive line with the Sooners. A two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection, Ikard earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America First Team in 2012 and was also a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy.

Ikard completed his undergraduate career with a 4.0 cumulative GPA in multidisciplinary studies and spent time in Ireland earlier this summer as a part of OU’s Study Abroad program.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
