NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma Head Cross Country Coach Jim VanHootegem and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione announced the schedule for the 2013 Oklahoma cross country season.
The upcoming season features several familiar events the Sooners competed in last season as well as multiple meets that are new to the OU program. The Sooners open the season on August 31 at the Hurricane Invitational in Tulsa, Okla. Both teams will then experience a break in the competition before heading east to compete in the Southern Stampede Cross Country Meet in Joplin, Mo., on Sept. 21.
The Sooners close out September with the programs splitting as the men travel to St. Paul, Minn., for the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 28 while the women go to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chile Pepper Invitational on Oct. 5. The programs will come back together for the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 19.
The Big 12 Championships place on Nov. 2 in Waco, Texas, followed by the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Ames, Iowa, on the 15th. The top two teams from the Midwest Region automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
