IRVING, Texas – University of Oklahoma volleyball senior Sallie McLaurin has been named a unanimous selection to the 2013 Big 12 Preseason Team, as voted on by the league’s coaches. McLaurin is joined by sophomore middle blocker Kierra Holst.
McLaurin, a middle blocker from Midwest City, Okla., was an All-Big 12 First Team pick a year ago. She also earned AVCA All-America Third Team and AVCA All-Central Region First Team honors. McLaurin enters her final season with the Sooners ranking fourth among active Big 12 players with 913 career kills. She led OU with 328 kills (2.83 per set) and a .357 attack rate in 2012 to go with 159 total blocks (1.37 per set).
Holst, a middle blocker from Coppell, Texas, earned a spot on last season’s All-Big 12 Freshman Team. After posting 221 kills as a rookie and 76 blocks, she participated with the USA Volleyball Women’s Junior National Team at the FIVB World Championship in the Czech Republic in June.
The conference’s coaches voted on Texas junior outside hitter Haley Eckerman as the Preseason Player of the Year and Kansas State setter Katie Brand and Texas Tech middle blocker Victoria Hinneburg as the Co-Preseason Freshmen of the Year.
The Big 12 Preseason Coaches’ Poll is scheduled to be released Wednesday afternoon.
