NORMAN, Okla. - Last week, members of the University of Oklahoma softball team got to join the elite of the sports world by appearing at the 2013 ESPYS at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Head coach Patty Gasso, senior Keilani Ricketts and sophomore Lauren Chamberlain were invited to represent Oklahoma as the Sooners were nominated for Best Team, while Ricketts was up for Female College Athlete of the Year.

All three Sooners arrived the day before the awards and, being natives of California, used Tuesday to shop and meet up with family and friends.

Wednesday was spent getting ready for the ESPYS as Chamberlain and Ricketts took to a nearby mall to get their makeup done and scope out possible outfits for the after-party. After getting ready at the hotel, the Sooners' contingent hit the Red Carpet at around 3:45 PT for the 6 p.m. show.

After posing for photos, the group, which also consisted of Coach Gasso's family, associate head coach Melyssa Lombardi and assistant coach Tripp MacKay, entered the Nokia Theatre and took its seats to the left-center of the stage. Coach Gasso, Chamberlain and Ricketts were each given a coveted aisle seat to ensure the possibility of time on camera.

The 2013 ESPYS were the 20th installment of the ward show and, in addition to the presenting of awards, featured comedy sketches and moving speeches. Among those speakers included sportscaster Robin Roberts, who beat both cancer and a life-threatening complication stemming from it, and the Hoyts, a father and son duo that has run 31 consecutive Boston Marathons despite the son having cerebral palsy.

Following the awards show was an after-party that enabled all of the nights' attendees to mingle and share in a night that honors the best in sports.
