NORMAN, Okla. - The Sooner women's golf team will compete in the Alabama Capstone Intercollegiate on Oct. 26-28 in Brookwood, Ala. Oklahoma will compete in the 17-team field at the par-71, 6,053-yard Capstone course. Competing for the Sooners will be senior Wendy Martin, junior Allison Johnson, sophomores Hope Edge and Lisa Meldrum and freshman Emily Milberger. The tournament field will consist of Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Florida, UAB, Arkansas, Miami, Missouri, Tennessee, UNC-Wilmington, Augusta State, Minnesota, Nebraska, SMU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
Women's Golf Team Captures Title in Kansas
The Oklahoma women's golf team captured their first tournament title of the season at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational on Oct. 16 in Lawrence, Kan. The tournament, which was originally scheduled for a two-day three-hole format, was sortened to one day and one round due to heavy rains. The Sooners shot a 309 to win the tournament by two strokes. Sophomore Lisa Meldrum paced the Sooners with a second place finish, while Senior Wendy Martin finished one stroke back in third place with a score of 74. Sophomore Hope Edge finished in fifth place with a score of 75 and junior Allison Johnson tied for ninth with a score of 77. Freshman Emily Milberger carded an 81 for 31st place and senior Jennifer Tannehill finished one stroke behind in 38th place.
