Jake Trotter of the Oklahoman: "You can bet, blue-chip prospect across the country tuning into the draft had to come away with the same impression: OU gets its players to the NFL. Six Sooners signed free agent contracts following the draft. Linebacker Mike Balogun will go to the San Francisco 49ers, unning back Chris Brown to the Denver Broncos, fullback Matt Clapp to the Detroit Lions, defensive end Auston English to the Cleveland Browns, defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger to the Seattle Seahawks and corner Brian Jackson to the New York Jets. The free agents and seven drafted players bring the total number of players sent to the NFL in the Stoops' era to 84.

  Saturday, April 24

With Sam Bradford No. 1, Gerald McCoy No. 3 and Trent Williams No. 4, Oklahoma became the first school ever to supply three of the first four NFL Draft picks (three schools had three of the first five: Notre Dame in 1946, Michigan State in 1967, USC in 1977). The four first-round picks were a program record for the Sooners. OU also supplied the first overall No. 1 pick for the Big 12 in the conference's history. A total of seven Sooners were drafted.

Oklahoma's Brody Eldridge was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Eldridge was the seventh Sooner selected in the 2010 draft, 346th all-time OU player drafted, 48th player drafted in the Stoops' era, 11th tight end drafted from OU all-time and 14th Sooner picked all-time by the Colts.

Bob Stoops on Brody Eldridge: ""You won't find a bigger heart than the one in Brody Eldridge. He attacks on every play. Brody is a devastating blocker and a guy who has really honed his receiving skill. He looked very good catching the ball on Sam Bradford's pro day. We viewed Brody as one of our most valuable players so I am very happy that he is getting this opportunity."
Oklahoma corner Dominique Franks was picked by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Franks was the sixth Sooner selected in the 2010 draft, 345th all-time OU player drafted, 47th player drafted in the Stoops' era, 44th defensive back drafted from OU all-time and 11th Sooner picked all-time by the Falcons.

Bob Stoops on Dominique Franks: ""Dominique had a knack for the big play, and he made several for us that changed the tone of a game. He covers well, tackles well and is extremely dangerous with the ball in his hands. I think he'll grow into an outstanding corner in the NFL and will only increase his value with the skills he also possesses on special teams."
OU linebacker Keenan Clayton was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. Clayton is the fifth Sooner to be picked in the draft and first linebacker since Curtis Lofton was taken in the first round by Atlanta in the 2008 draft. The Eagles select a Sooner for the 12th time including notable past picks Keith Jackson (1988) and Steve Zabel (1970).

Bob Stoops on Kennan Clayton: ""Keenan's maturation as a player was impressive. He made himself a stronger and faster player and developed into someone that we had to have on the field. The fact that he began his career as a safety then moved to a linebacker gave him a lot of versatility. It made it possible him for double at times as our nickel back, a real luxury, especially against hurry-up offenses."

The Bengals took the fourth Sooner off the board in the first round with their selection of TE Jermaine Gresham with the 21st pick. Gresham's selection gives Oklahoma four first-round picks for the first time in the program's history. The Sooners previously supplied three first-rounders in 1976 and 1970.

OU head coach Bob Stoops on Jermaine Gresham: "Jermaine is that combination of speed, size and strength that we see very rarely. He also has an extremely competitive attitude which contributed to him being such a dominant player. He was a walking mismatch. But even though he accomplished so much, I've always felt that he has a great focus on the sport of football and the concept of getting better every day. He has already proven himself as an outstanding player, but you get the sense that he is far from satisfied. His standards are very high and he will do everything in his power to reach them."
Analysis from the NFL: "The Bengals fill their biggest void in the passing game with the selection of Jermaine Gresham. He gives the team a legitimate threat in the middle of the field, and his exceptional receiving skills should be a nice complement to Chad Ochocinco and Antonio Bryant. Given Carson Palmer's struggles a season ago, the revamped aerial attack should help him regain his Pro Bowl form."
OU offensive tackle Trent Williams was selected by the Washington Redskins as the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Williams was the third Sooner selected in the first four picks of the draft.

OU head coach Bob Stoops on Trent Williams: "I have a great appreciation for Trent because of what he was willing to do for our program. I think he played every line position during his career here, and in his senior season, when I am sure he would have preferred to concentrate on the tackle position, he actually played some center because it was best for our team. That kind of unselfishness from very gifted players is something that coaches never forget. Trent has great feet and strength and he's a solid technician. We've had a number of good linemen here lately and he's as good as any of them. He will be a valuable contributor in the NFL."
Analysis from the NFL: "The Redskins opt to take the ultra-athletic Trent Williams over Russell Okung. Williams, who logged starts at both tackle spots and center during his collegiate career, gives the team a nimble athlete to play left tackle in their zone-based blocking scheme. Although there were some concerns about his work ethic, his ability to cutoff blockers on the backside on running plays made him a better fit for Washington."
OU defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is headed to Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers selected McCoy as the No. 3 overall pick.

OU head coach Bob Stoops on Gerald McCoy: "Gerald was one of the most complete student-athletes I have ever coached. Obviously, he made tremendous contributions to our program on the field, but he was just as valuable to our campus and community. From a football perspective, Gerald combines outstanding quickness with a great feel for the game. Those two qualities made him a disruptive force that elevated the center of our defense to one of the most reliable facets of our team."
Analysis from the NFL: "The Bucs finally find a Warren Sapp-like player to man their "three-technique" position. McCoy is a disruptive force with the quickest first step of any defensive tackle in recent history. His ability to create instant penetration with his explosive "get off" makes him the ideal fit in the Tampa-2 scheme."
Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford is the overall No. 1 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. Bradford is OU's third overall No. 1 pick (RB Billy Sims in 1980, DE Lee Roy Selmon in 1976). Brian Bosworth was the No. 1 pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 1987 NFL Supplemental Draft.

Now Comes Hard Part for Sam Bradford - The Oklahoman

OU head coach Bob Stoops on Sam Bradford: "Sam is special. He is blessed with all of the attributes you like in a quarterback. He's athletic, smart and mature. We throw words like those around pretty easily, but he possesses all of those qualities at an extremely high level. There is great comfort for a team and coaching staff with someone like that directing the offense. Leadership manifests itself in a number of ways, but first and foremost, a leader must have the respect of the team for the way he prepares, plays and conducts himself. Sam earned that kind of respect very early in his career here. From a playing perspective, I always appreciated his pinpoint accuracy. It was uncanny, and part of the reason he was so accurate was that he understood how to read defenses and find the best throw."
Analysis from the NFL: "The Rams tab Sam Bradford to be their new franchise quarterback. Though Bradford missed most of the 2009 season nursing a shoulder injury, his strong pre-draft workouts, intangibles and game tape made him the right choice in St. Louis. While the Rams don't have many weapons around him, Bradford gives the team an accurate thrower with the skills to develop into an elite quarterback as the team builds around him."
The NFL just posted this video prominently featuring Sam Bradford, Gerald McCoy and Jermaine Gresham filmed inside OU's Everest Center and flying above the Oklahoma landscape. Pretty cool video and we're guessing that it will kick off the draft coverage at 6:30. At the very beginning, can you hear "Touchdown Oklahoma!"?

He's incorporating photos from the draft events with fellow Sooners Sam Bradford and Trent Williams already making appearances. Follow along with GK as he brings the 2010 NFL Draft to Sooner fans.
OU quarterback Sam Bradford is on the cover of Sports Illustrated for the second time. SI chose Bradford to feature its 2010 NFL Draft coverage. The QB from Oklahoma City is expected to be OU's third all-time No. 1 pick in the draft which begins Thursday night. Bradford previously appeared on SI's cover after Oklahoma's win against Texas Tech in 2008.
John Hoover of the Tulsa World: "For his part, Williams is viewed as potentially the best overall offensive tackle in the draft.
