Sophomore Leonce Crump, in his first action in over a month, helped OU win a pair of duals meets on Sunday over Fresno State and Cal Poly.

    NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team, preparing for the National Duals next weekend, ran its winning streak to eight matches will a pair of easy victories over Fresno State (30-6) and Cal Poly (40-3) on Sunday. OU, ranked third in the nation, also improved to 11-1 on the year.

    In its first match against the Bulldogs at Yukon High School, OU roared out to a 15-0 lead behind behind No. 5/4 Robbie Waller's major decision at 165 and No. 6/2 Josh Lambrecht's technical fall at 174. Heavyweight Leonce Crump, ranked No. 4/2, made it 21-3 with a pin just 1:48 into his bout with Grant Harrington.

    The match of the day was next with top-ranked Stephen Abas taking on No. 3/2 Matt Ridings. Abas, a two-time NCAA Champion, remained undefeated as he held off Ridings, 6-5, to give the senior St. Louis, Mo., his first loss of the year.

    OU finished strong with decision victories by No. 3/3 Witt Durden (133), NR/No. 11 Melvin Lofton (141) and No. 5/4 Jared Frayer (149).

    The Sooners overwhelmed Cal Poly by 37 in their evening dual meet at the Howard McCasland Field House thanks to two forfeits (141 and 197) and a pair of falls by Ridings and senior Jared Frayer in the first periods. Frayer leads the team will 11 falls this season and, for his career, has tallied 44 pins (second most all-time in school history).

    It was 6-3 Cal Poly after No. 17/12 Steve Strange pulled out an 8-7 win over No. 12/14 Michael Barger, scoring a reverse with time running out. However, Oklahoma rolled from there, tallying the last 34 points of the match. The win over the Mustangs was also aided by Waller and Durden's major decisions.

    Waller and Crump each tallied a pair of victories in their first action since Dec. 9.

    OU will compete in the National Duals next weekend on the campus of The Ohio State University on January 19 and 20.
