NORMAN, Okla. - The second-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team will hold its annual ranking match, the Red/White Classic, this Saturday, Nov. 3. The final ranking match before the beginning of the season, the Red/White will determine the starters for the upcoming dual season. Action is slated to start 30 minutes following the OU-Tulsa football game at the Howard McCasland Field House and admission is free.

"The action will be fast and furious from the opening," said OU Head Coach Jack Spates. "We start with two nationally ranked wrestlers in Bo Maynes and Matt Ridings at 125 pounds and it should be a battle. Fans will get to see four returning All-Americans and eight wrestlers ranked in the top eight nationally. This will be an opportunity to see top talent and some great action. It should definitely be worth the price of admission, which is free."

In the 125-pound match, Maynes, who was ranked as high as third nationally before injury forced him out of action for the season, will face NCAA qualifier Matt Ridings. At 133 pounds, All-American Witt Durden will battle Daniel Caruthers. Final matchups have yet to be decided at both 141 and 149 pounds. Nate Parker, ranked No. 12 at 141 pounds will face either Melvin Lofton or Matt Grice. The nation's top-ranked 149 pounder and returning All-American Jared Frayer will wrestle Randy Sulaver or Daniel Rubenstein.

In another highly contested bout, transfer and three-time NCAA qualifier Doug Cieleski will square off against Mark Worthy, who was the Sooners' opening day starter last season before separating his ACL against Oklahoma State last season, for the starting slot at 157 pounds. At 165 pounds, Wes Roberts, who was the top recruit at his weight two years ago, will wrestle transfer Raf Maturino. Maturino, an NAIA All-American at Missouri Valley, will wrestle up a weight in place of injured two-time NCAA qualifier Robbie Waller.

Lineups of the 174- and 184-pound bouts have yet to be set with two-time NCAA qualifier Michael Barger (174) to battle Dustin Walker or Travis Brotton and All-American Josh Lambrecht (184) to face the winner of Rowdy Lundegreen and Derrick Brown. The final two matches pit two-time NCAA qualifier Tom Grossman, who is returning from a yearlong religious mission, against Joel Tapler at 197 pounds and All-American Leonce Crump and Gary Barber at heavyweight.

"This is the finest collection of talent in my tenure," further stated Spates. "With the Sooners ranked either second or third nationally in the preseason polls, we're looking forward to a great year. We have the work ethic to be successful and the attitude to match. We're eager to get going and it all starts Saturday."

Sooner wrestlers will also host a takedown barbecue before and after the football game in front of the Howard McCasland Field House.
