OU Arrives in K.C. for Big 12's | Tuesday, March 8

The Sooners arrived in Kansas City late Tuesday morning and promptly held two practices. The first was a 60-minute session at Penn Valley Community College and the second a 45-minute shootaround at Sprint Center -- site of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship that begins Wednesday (OU plays Baylor at 6 p.m. CT in a first-round contest). Following the second workout, head coach Jeff Capel fielded questions from the media. Here's video of practice and Capel's informal Q&A session.

Davis Reflects on OU Career | Friday, March 4

The day before his final game at Lloyd Noble Center (Saturday at 3 p.m. against Oklahoma State), senior guard Cade Davis sat down to discuss his OU career, reflect on his favorite moments, reveal what he'll miss about college, share his plans for the future and deliver a thank-you message to the Sooner Nation. Davis, who is just 48 points shy of 1,000 for his career and ranks No. 5 all-time at OU in 3-point field goals (176), will be honored at 2:40 p.m. during a pregame senior ceremony and will address the crowd following the Bedlam contest.

Osby Already a Leader | Wednesday, Feb. 23

The man whom head coach Jeff Capel calls the best player on OU's team has not played in a game this season. That man is Romero Osby, an athletic junior forward who is sitting out this year after tranferring from Mississippi State. A versatile player who can do damage both inside and on the perimeter, Osby will have two years of eligibility as a Sooner beginning with the 2011-12 campaign. Get to know 6-8, 240-pounder and watch highlights in this feature from the "Sooner Hoops With Jeff Capel" TV show.

Blake Griffin OU Flashback | Saturday, Feb. 19

Blake Griffin has taken the NBA by storm this year and tonight will participate in the slam dunk contest as part of All-Star Weekend festivities in Los Angeles. Tomorrow night he will compete in the All-Star Game itself, the first rookie to do so in eight years. It wasn't too long ago that Griffin was doing the same thing to Oklahoma opponents as he's doing now to Los Angeles Clippers' foes. Here's a collection of Griffin highlights from his 2008-09 sophomore season at OU:

Postgame Celebration at ISU | Monday, Jan. 31

Steven Pledger gave his teammates reason to celebrate Saturday night in Ames, Iowa. The sophomore guard drained seven 3-pointers and obliterated his previous career scoring high of 23 points with a 38-point outburst to lead OU to an 82-76 overtime win against Iowa State. The victory was the Sooners' first in more than a year away from home. Here's postgame locker room video:

Suits and Sneakers Weekend | Friday, Jan. 28

The Oklahoma men's basketball coaches will wear sneakers with their suits this weekend to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. In its seventh year, the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend aims to help spotlight the fact that, while cancer remains a major health concern, everyone can take daily steps to reduce their risk of the disease. The best ways to improve health and reduce cancer risk are through weight control, exercise and a healthy diet, according to the American Cancer Society.

Pictured above is the Nike Hustle shoe that OU head coach Jeff Capel and his staff will wear during the Sooners' Saturday night game at Iowa State. Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaborative initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. With the official start of practice just three days away, Director of Student-Athlete Performance Jozsef Szendrei sat down this evening to recap the Sooners' preseason strength and conditioning program (video clip below), which concluded today with a mile run in the morning and a team weightlifting session in the afternoon. Szendrei, who's not one to sugarcoat things, seemed pleased with the players' physical performance over the past seven weeks, and maybe more importantly, with their character development.

The Sooners were up early today for the final of their seven weekly preseason mile runs. Ten of the 14 players who ran today posted personal bests, with Calvin Newell and Carl Blair leading the way at 5:23 (Newell won by a hair).   Preseason Workouts Nearing End | Thursday, Oct. 7

With the official start of practice just eight days away (Oct. 15), the Sooners are close to wrapping up their preseason strength and conditioning program with Jozsef Szendrei. The players are in week five of conditioning and week six of lifting. Szendrei said the guys have been hungry and working hard. This week he's moved conditioning sessions to 10:30 p.m. at the Everest Training Center for a change of pace.

PhotosSeptember Workout Photo Gallery

"This is kind of our mayhem week," he said, "This week comes down to discipline, work ethic and time management. What they normally do at 10:30 at night has shifted to doing what's important for the team. It's a new environment and is helping us find out a little bit more about everyone."

Szendrei said he's happy with the players' approach since August and is confident the hard work will give the Sooners an edge.

"Our guys have worked their butts off for this team and have bought in to what we're selling. Regardless of the outcome of a game, I think we can outprepare our opponents. We can do things that I know other teams don't do. When we work this hard together as a team, that's what gives us confidence as a unit. Nobody can take that away from us. We talk about being blue collar, leading by example, making sure we're disciplined. Those are the things we can control."

Cade Davis Calling Bob Stoops? | Tuesday, Oct. 5

It's no huge surprise that Cade Davis would be able to kick the football around a little bit. After all, he's an excellent athlete. But a 50-yard field goal? On his first attempt? Watch the video below, shot after last night's team conditioning session at the Everest Training Center on OU's campus. The video was shot by team manager Justin Mathis. Fellow manager John "Stretch" Christ was the holder.

Cade Davis Goes Behind the Camera | Monday, Oct. 4

The Sooners took a quick break from preseason workouts last Wednesday for a media guide/poster photo shoot and we convinced -- OK, it didn't require much arm twisting -- senior guard Cade Davis to go behind the video camera to capture the lighter side of his teammates. Check out the amusing clip below.

A Special Day of Basketball | Thursday, Sept. 30

Jeff Capel's and Sherri Coale's OU men's and women's hoops teams hosted a Special Olympics basketball clinic Thursday morning at Lloyd Noble Center. More than 150 Special Olympics athletes from around the state signed up for the two-hour clinic that featured 15 stations worth of shooting, dribbling and passing drills, as well as locker room tours.

The annual event in Norman has become extremely popular. OU coaches, players and support staff were on hand to provide instruction and to offer friendship to this year's participants, who represented the Anadarko, Catoosa, Edmond, Guthrie, Jay, Oklahoma City, Putnam City and Weatherford districts.

Crock Checks In From Hungary | Wednesday, Sept. 29

Tony Crocker, a senior guard on last year's OU squad, called from Hungary recently to fill us in on his new job. Crocker is playing professionally for a team named Albacomp in Hungary's A Division. Albacomp plays in the city of Szekesfehervar, which is just southwest of the capital city of Budapest.

Crocker said his team "has a chance to win the whole thing." He said his first official game is Oct. 9 and that the regular season goes until April 12.

Crocker claims the adjustment to life in Hungary has been "cool," even though he's had to relearn how to drive stick shift (he's only stalled a few times) and the food is very different. "I can't read what the packages say at the store," he said, "so I either just buy stuff that has a picture of something that looks good or I use the translator app on my phone to figure out what it is."

Second TV Spot Released | Tuesday, Sept. 28

The OU Athletics Department unveiled its second men's basketball TV spot today, titled "Basketball: Part II, by Jeff Capel." Viewable in the player below, the spot features former head coach Billy Tubbs and All-Americans Alvan Adams and Hollis Price, and addresses OU's basketball tradition, family and the importance of Sooner fans. As Capel says, family means achieving success together.

In case you missed it, the first spot (released last week) can be viewed here

Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced today that the team has added former OU center Longar Longar to its training camp roster. Longar (6-11, 230) spent last season in the NBA Development League, averaging 6.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 20.4 minutes in 11 games (four starts) with the Los Angeles D-Fenders and Bakersfield Jam.

2010 OU Player Poll | Monday, Sept. 27

It has become a tradition of Jeff Capel's OU teams to participate in a fun preseason player poll, whereby team members supply the name of a teammate for various categories. This feature shows a side of the players you don't necessarily see on the court -- the personalities, interests and non-basketball talents of this year's Sooners. View the results of the player poll here.

Blue Ribbon Yearbook, the most comprehensive and perhaps most respected preseason college basketball publication on the market, has announced its preseason All-America team and top-25 rankings. As has been the case the last several years, the Big 12 Conference is well represented. Three Big 12 players help comprise the five-member first-team All-America squad: Baylor's LaceDarius Dunn, Kansas' Marcus Morris and Kansas State's Jacob Pullen. They join Duke's Kyle Singler and BYU's Jimmer Fredette. Five Big 12 teams appear in Blue Ribbon's top 25, with Kansas leading the way at No. 7. The Jayhawks are followed by Kansas State at No. 12, Baylor at No. 16, Texas at No. 18 and Missouri at No. 20. The top five consists of Duke, Michigan State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Purdue.

Capel Provides Team Update | Thursday, Sept. 23

Head coach Jeff Capel sat down today to talk about his team's progress during workouts over the past month. During the nine-minute interview (available in the video player below), Capel commented on the breath of fresh air his newcomers have provided, mentioned some players who have surprised him, and addressed the point guard position, the team's captains and how Cade Davis' injury affects the team.

Davis Sustains Facial Fracture | Wednesday, Sept. 22

OU head coach Jeff Capel said today that senior guard Cade Davis sustained a facial fracture during a team skill workout last Friday and is expected to make a full recovery in four to six weeks. The injury will not require surgery and Davis has already been cleared for conditioning and shooting drills that do not require contact.

Capel said Davis may wear a protective mask for a period of time once he's completely cleared to return to action.

One of four 2010-11 OU captains, Davis is the Sooners' leading returner in minutes, scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and 3-pointers. From Elk City, Okla., last year he averaged 9.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.0 assist and a team-high 1.5 steals per game. He averaged 12.5 points over the last 12 games (second highest average on team).

Tip times for the nine-game 2010-11 home non-conference schedule have been finalized. Games against Northern State (exhibition on Nov. 2), Coppin State (Nov. 12), North Carolina Central (Nov. 15), Texas Southern (Nov. 18), Gardner-Webb (Dec. 9), Sacramento State (Dec. 21), Central Arkansas (Dec. 30) and Maryland Eastern Shore (Jan. 3) will all begin at 7 p.m. CT. The Dec. 11 game against Oral Roberts (Saturday) will tip at 2 p.m. CT. All except the Northern State and Coppin State contests will be televised by the Sooner Sports Network. The updated schedule can be viewed here.

The OU Athletics Department announced today multiple Year of the Fan season ticket initiatives for the 2010-11 men's and women's basketball seasons to allow more access and rewards for fans. For men's basketball, season ticket holders will see a minimum of a 17 percent savings for seats in the lower level. Also, 400 seats have been added to the popular upper level sideline season tickets. Those seats average to just $10 per game, the same as last season.

Season ticket holders who have renewed their tickets by the Sept. 29 deadline will be rewarded with the "Year of the Fan 30 Prizes in 30 Days" promotion. Starting Oct. 15, different men's and women's basketball season ticket holders will be awarded a prize for 30 consecutive days (one men's prize and one women's prize will be awarded each day). Prizes include 40-inch flat screen TVs, iPod Touches and iPads, $100 gas and grocery cards, restaurant gift cards, autographed items, airline gift certificates and more.
