June 8, 2012 | Columbia Super Regional News Conference
Coach Golloway and Sooners Caleb Bushyhead, Jordan John and Max White met with the media covering this weekend's Super Regional Friday afternoon at Carolina Stadium.
Much of the talk was about the last time these two teams squared off in the 2010 College World Series in Omaha. South Carolina's last postseason loss was to the Sooners, a streak of 19 wins they've held while winning back-to-back national championships. The Sooners were eliminated by the Gamecocks in the 2010 CWS after 10 innings.

June 6, 2012 | MLB Draft Recap - Day 3
On the third and final day, junior righty Drew Harrison was selected in the 23rd round by the Detroit Tigers and senior shortstop Caleb Bushyhead was taken in the 29th round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Harrison and Bushyhead joined Steven Okert (fourth round), Damien Magnifico (fifth round) and Jordan John (sixth round) as the five Sooners taken in the 2012 MLB Draft.

Bushyhead leads all current Sooners with 200 games played and 175 starts. He has 63 starts in 64 games played this year and was recently named to the Charlottesville All-Regional team with hits in all five games to extend his season-high hitting streak to eigth games.
Harrison, who started his career at OU as a designated hitter and first baseman, has primarily pitched this season. He tossed a career-high six innings in the final game of the Charlottesville Regional to help OU advance to the Super Regional round this week. Harrison entered Monday's start, the first of his career, with 9 1/3 career innings pitched.
June 5, 2012 | MLB Draft Recap - Day 2
Three current Sooner pitchers were taken in the first six rounds on Tuesday in day two of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft. The first round highlighted day one while the next 14 rounds were finished on day two. The remainder of the draft concludes on Wednesday.
Since 2005, 15 Sooners have been taken in the first 10 rounds under head coach Sunny Golloway.
Junior Steven Okert started things off with his fourth round selection (148th overall) by the San Francisco Giants. It marked the third career selection for Okert who came to OU after being selected twice by the Milwaukee Brewers. The lefty was taken in the 33rd round out of Grayson County College and 43rd round out of Rowlett High School.
Okert has been a dominant closer for the Sooners down the stretch with a 9-7 record and five saves. He posted a win and a save over the weekend as Oklahoma clinched its third appearance in the NCAA Super Regional round after winning the Charlottesville Regional.
In the fifth round, the Milwaukee Brewers took redshirt sophomore Damien Magnifico with the 185th overall pick. Magnifico is 3-1 with two saves and a 3.86 ERA in his 20 appearances in 2012 (third on the team). The hard-throwing right hander was also taken in the fifth round back in 2009 after he graduated from North Mesquite High School.
The third and final selection of the day belonged to redshirt sophomore Jordan John, who was taken in the sixth round (214th overall) by the Detroit Tigers. The left hander has been the Sooners' Friday night starter throughout a majority of the season with a team-best four complete games to go along with hiw eight victories.
John was drafted in the 28th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.
May 25, 2012 | Video: Sooners on the Walk-Off Wins
Oklahoma became the first team in Big 12 Championship history to win two games in the bottom of the ninth inning in the same year. OU has now had a walk-off victory in the ninth inning three times in Big 12 Championship games to tie Missouri for the most all-time. In addition, OU has won six games in the bottom of the ninth this season, and one other in their final at bat on the road at New Mexico.
The Sooners' latest late-inning victory has them in the winners' bracket awaiting a 9 a.m. game on Saturday against the winner of Baylor and Kansas State (Friday at 3:15 p.m.).

May 20, 2012 | Sooners Face Cowboys in Big 12 Champ.
The No. 24 Sooners make their 22nd straight appearance in the conference tournament with the start of the 2012 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday, May 23 at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City.
The bracket has OU seeded fourth to face the fifth seed Oklahoma State in the first round at 9 a.m. The game will be heard on the Sooner Sports Network KREF 1400 AM and a live webcast and stats can be found on Big12Sports.com.
The winner of the game will face the winner of No. 1 Baylor and No. 8 Kansas State at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The losers of those two games play at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Single-session tickets for the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship are on sale now. The Conference's postseason event is set for Wednesday, May 23-Sunday, May 27 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Prices for single-session tickets range from $13 to $37 and are available via Ticketmaster and at the Oklahoma City RedHawks box office. April 24, 2012 | Baseball Hosts Special Spectators
On Friday, April 20 at L. Dale Mitchell Park, Asher Edelen, Christoval Mora and Jacob Osborn enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of a typical baseball gameday on top of the Sooners' 5-0 victory, all thanks to the efforts of an organization called Special Spectators. The trio also threw out the first pitch as OU hosted Alabama State in a non-conference game. The University of Oklahoma has a long-standing relationship with the organization and this season marked the seventh straight year that head coach Sunny Golloway and the Sooners had the pleasure of sharing the day with.

Edelen, Mora and Osborn were representing the children at the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center in Oklahoma City. Special Spectators is a nonprofit organization that works with athletic departments across the country in order to provide memorable experiences for seriously ill children and their families at various sporting events. The organization also helps organize visits by coaches and student-athletes to nearby children's hospitals. "Each time our team has the opportunity to give something back to the community it truly amazes me how much joy we can bring into someone's life," said Golloway. "It also makes you realize how lucky you are and today was no exception. These three children inspired our student-athletes today."

Oklahoma extended its winning streak to five games (ties season high) on Tuesday night with a 6-3 win at Oral Roberts. It marked the first regular season meeting in Tulsa since 2004. It also marked the return to Oral Roberts for head coach Sunny Golloway, who coached seven seasons in Tulsa. April 17, 2012 | Home Run Club Bus Trip to Stillwater
The Home Run Club is organizing a bus trip to watch the non-conference Bedlam game on Tuesday, April 24 in Stillwater, Okla. (6:30 p.m.). The bus will leave at 4 p.m. from the northwest corner of the Lloyd Noble Center parking lot. For those in Oklahoma City, a stop can be made at the Flying J Travel Center at North 122nd Street and I-35 and Crossroads Mall. Please notify us if you need to be picked up at either location.
Cost is $25 for the bus, $10 for the game ticket and $5 for a box lunch (sandwich, chips and a drink). Fans interested need to contact Lavonne Stockdale by Saturday, April 21. She will collect cash only on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 on the upper concourse at L. Dale Mitchell Park as the Sooners host Alabama State. There will be no smoking or alcoholic beverages on the bus.

The Sooners won the best-of-three series over the weekend against Kansas State thanks to some clutch hitting off the bench from seniors Cody Reine and Evan Mistich. The game was over, the players were back on the bus, and New Braunfels senior Ralph Garza took out his phone just like he did after every game last season.
He scrolled to his mother's number to tell her how things went on the field, before he realized this isn't last season anymore.
Last July, Lupita Garza died after a three-year battle with cancer.

March 21, 2012 | Big 12 Baseball Championship Tickets on Sale
All-session tickets for the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at RedHawks Field in Oklahoma City are now on sale. The championship will be played in a double-elimination format beginning on Wednesday, May 23, culminating with the championship game on Sunday, May 27.
The event will consist of two, four-team brackets with the first game slated for 9:00 a.m. on May 23. The eight teams with the best conference record (based on winning percentage) in regular season competition will qualify.
All-session tickets are available from $87 for terrace reserved to $117 for box seating to $202 for club-level seats. A limited number of weekend passes are also available starting at $67. All-session tickets include all games, including the if-necessary games, totaling 15 games. Single-session tickets will be available the week of the event.
Tickets may be purchased by calling the Oklahoma City RedHawks Box Office at (405) 218-1000 or through this link.
Oklahoma City has been the site of the championship for eight-straight years and 14 times total. The postseason crown has been won by seven different league squads. Past postseason champions include Kansas (2006), Nebraska (1999-2001, `05), Oklahoma (1997), Oklahoma State (2004), Texas (2002, `03, `08-'09), Texas A&M (2007, `10-'11) and Texas Tech (1998).

Feb. 24, 2012 | Flores on College Hall of Fame Ballot
Four-year letterwinner Javier Flores (1994-1997) was named to the National College Baseball Hall of Fame ballot announced today. The voting is now underway for the 2012 class of the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in Lubbock.
The ballot to select this year's inductees features 69 worthy candidates, including the Sooner catcher who was a three-time All-American and helped lead OU to the 1994 National Championship and the 1995 College World Series. Other players on the ballot include: Nomar Garciaparra, Jeffrey Hammonds, Tino Martinez, Mark McGwire, Phil Nevin and Frank Viola.
The members of the 2012 College Baseball Hall of Fame class will be announced in late February once all the ballots have been tallied and the results verified. Those selected will join previous inductees, including coaches Jim Brock of Arizona State, Jerry Kindall of Arizona, Bob Bennett of Fresno State, Ron Polk of Mississippi State and the late Rod Dedeaux of USC; and players Barry Larkin of Michigan, John Olerud of Washington State, Derek Tatsuno of Hawaii and Danny Goodwin of Southern University.
The voting panel is composed of approximately 210 members. It is comprised of national and regional college baseball media, active and retired coaches, media and coaches from the "small school" category, a group of about a dozen former players, a group of "college baseball historians" and about 10 members of the Society for American Baseball Research collegiate baseball committee. Past College Baseball Hall of Fame inductees also vote.
To be eligible for the College Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, players must have completed one year of competition at a two-year or four-year institution and/or earned verifiable national acclaim. They will be inducted as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's "Night of Champions" event, which will take place on June 30 in Lubbock.

The fourth and final major preseason poll was released by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association on Jan. 28 and OU received its highest ranking at No. 14. In just over three weeks, the Sooners will be prepping for the 2012 season opener on Feb. 17 at Pepperdine. The Sooners have been working in individual practices for the last week and a half and one of the starting jobs that is wide open appears behind the plate.
The Sooners have four catchers on the 2012 roster in senior Tanner Toal, sophomores Dylan Neal and Jake Smith and freshman Hunter Lockwood looking to fill the void left by All-American catcher Tyler Ogle, who was drafted in the ninth round by the Dodgers in 2011.

Assistant coach Jack Giese, who joined the Sooners on Nov. 6, recently sat down with SoonerSports.com to talk about taking the job at Oklahoma, settling down in Norman, and the transition from minor league baseball to Division I. Giese also talks about the 2012 OU pitching staff and his time spent at Howard Junior College and the recruiting pipeline that has been built from there to OU.
Nov. 16, 2011 | Sooners Finalize 2013 Class with Weiler
The Sooners finalized the early signing period with the addition of RHP/INF Henry Weiler on Nov. 16. Weiler is from Rockhurst H.S. in Kansas and is the 16th signee to submit his NLI in the early signing period. Weiler, like fellow Kansas product Justin Burba, is ranked the No. 3 recruit in the state by Perfect Game.
On Nov. 15, OU announced the signing of 15 players, including Burba and 10 other high school stars. The Sooners also signed four players from the junior college ranks.

Sept. 6, 2011 | Richards Activated from Disabled List
Garrett Richards, the Sooner alum from 2007-2009 and first round pick in 2009, is returning to the bullpen. Richards was activated off the disabled list on Monday and instead of making his third career MLB start, Angels' Manager Mike Scioscia is hoping the hard-throwing right hander can help the bullpen in the postseason. Richards was the Sooners' closer for the first two years in Norman before becoming a starting pitcher.
"His future is obviously as a starter," Scioscia told the Los Angeles Times of Richards, who made two August starts for the Angels before suffering a right groin strain. "But this month, he could have more of an impact in the bullpen if his stuff plays as well as we think it will."
He made his MLB debut on Aug. 10 at Yankee Stadium with a five-inning start and then suffered a groin injury in his next start at Texas.
The Angels are 2.5 games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West standings. The Halos have 21 games remaining in the regular season, including a three-game home series against the Rangers to conclude the slate.
Aug. 26, 2011 | Baseball Wraps up First Week of Fall
The 2012 University of Oklahoma baseball team reported to Norman on Monday, Aug. 22 for the first day of classes on campus.
Throughout the week, the team went through orientation with a series of various meetings to get associated with members of the support staff and to learn the program's rules and policies. Friday marked the first day of individual practices while team sessions begin on Sept. 16.
The Sooners return 15 players from last year's team that finished 41-19 overall in the program's fourth straight NCAA appearance. That group includes Steven Bruce, Caleb Bushyhead, Cale Coshow, Drew Harrison, Jordan John, Drew Krittenbrink, Kindle Ladd, Jack Mayfield, Evan Mistich, Dillon Overton, Cody Reine, Erik Ross, Jake Smith, Tanner Toal and Max White.
The returners will be joined by a group of 24 newcomers competing for spots on the 2012 roster.

New assistant coach Aric Thomas has arrived in Norman, and last week he took some time out of his schedule for an interview with SoonerVision. Thomas expressed his excitement about returning to OU, where he played for the Sooners from 1994-95 and previously served as an assistant from 1996-2004, and also shared some of the coaching philosophies he will bring to the Oklahoma staff this time around.
