NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team fought through harsh course conditions Monday at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate held at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. The Sooners are in eighth place after two rounds at 606, while BYU leads the tournament at 586. BYU used a stellar second round score of 282 to overtake Oklahoma State, who led after the first round. BYU's second-round score of 282 is 16 strokes better than any other team round in the tournament.

"This golf course is brutal," said coach Gregg Grost. "The wind blew 25-30 miles per hour the whole day and the greens were as hard as concrete. This is one of the better fields in college golf and the scores are astronomical."

Grost was pleased with the way his team handled the conditions, but stressed that the scores could have been better. Junior Kelsey Cline bogeyed five of his last six holes in the first round and his first three holes in the second round, yet is in seventh place at three-over-par 147. Sophomore Chris Cureton and junior J.D. Robertson are tied for 37th.

The average score for the field in round one was 77.14, while the average in round two was 76.54.

The Sooners will conclude play in the Morris Williams on Tuesday.
