NORMAN, Okla. – After stellar careers at the University of Oklahoma, All-Americans Samantha Ricketts and Amber Flores are now playing in the professional ranks in the National Pro Fastpitch this summer. Entering the month of July, both Ricketts and Flores have seen action the majority of games this season.
Ricketts has played in all 12 games for the Akron (Ohio) Racers this season and has a .259 batting average during those games. Ricketts has seven hits, four runs scored and six runs driven in, which ties her for the team lead. With two home runs and a double, Ricketts has produced a .519 slugging percentage, a mark that is third best on the team.
Against the Chicago Bandits on June 24, Ricketts’ lone hit was a two-run home run. She also had an RBI double against the Bandits on June 22. In the series finale on June 27, Ricketts was 2-for-2 with a run driven in and two runs scored.
In her rookie season with the USSSA Pride based out of Kissimmee, Fla., Flores has played in 11 of the Pride’s 12 games. She is hitting .238 with five hits, five runs scored and seven runs batted in. Her six walks drawn are second-best on the team behind Olympic gold medalist Kelly Kretschman’s nine.
After helping lead the Pride past the Bandits 16-3 on June 9 with a two-run single, Flores was the difference against the Tennessee Diamonds on June 26. Her grand slam to left field provided the Pride with a 5-3 win.
Ricketts and Flores face each other this weekend as the Racers and Pride meet for a five-game series at Firestone Stadium in Akron beginning Thursday night at 6:05 p.m. CT. Live video of the series is available through MLB.com. Subscriptions packages are $19.95 for the entire NPF season. Live stats are available at AkronRacers.org.
