NORMAN, Okla. - In its first meet of the 2002 season, the Oklahoma men's tennis team will face the University of Oklahoma-Science and Arts on Friday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. The men will be competing at Woodlake Racquet Club, located at 6901 NW 63rd. St in Oklahoma City.

The Sooners, led by returning juniors Tobias Kronlein, Chris Mitchell and Matt Ogle, look to have a strong season this year. Head coach Paul Lockwood brought in seven newcomers for this year's squad, including two juniors, one sophomore and four freshman. Native Frenchmen Ollivier Monferran, Olivier Girardot and Sebastien Revol comprise the upper classmen, while the four freshman are Matt Lopez (Enid, Okla.), Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania), Matt Long (Ft. Worth, Texas) and Brad Prigmore (Wichita Falls, Texas).

"One of our strengths is in our numbers," said head coach Paul Lockwood. "It's easier to get some variety in practice and work on different styles of games when you have more players on your team to play against."

The Sooners, who will be playing in the newly constructed University of Oklahoma Headington Family Tennis Center this season, will use that experience in order to reach success. Their first home match at the center is March 1 against Oral Roberts at 1:30 p.m.
