NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad concluded its team qualifying for the season-opening Kansas Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. Earning spots in the lineup for the first event were senior Ben Blundell, junior's Liam Logan and Chris Wilson, sophomore Riley Pumphrey and freshman Nathan Chambers.
Fellow frosh Davis Lee will also make the trip to Lawrence, Kan., competing as an individual.
"We had a couple of spots up for grabs heading into today's final qualifying round, which is exciting," said first-year head coach Ryan Hybl. "It means that there are multiple guys fighting for those spots, which can only make our team better in the long run."
The qualifying process began a month ago, as the Sooners opened official practices with a 72-hole weekend retreat to The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Okla., on Aug. 28-31.
KU will host the 54-hole Kansas Invitational at the par-72, 7058-yard Alvamar Golf Course on Sept. 28-29. The 14-team field will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by an 18-hole final round on Tuesday.
Other teams in the field include Idaho, Illinois State, Houston, Louisiana, Marquette, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma City University, Seton Hall, South Dakota, UMKC and Western Kentucky.
