Men's Golf Opens Season in Tennessee
September 09, 2004

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men’s golf team opens its fall season this weekend (Sept. 11-12) at the 7th Annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Sooners are looking to build on their successful 2003-2004 season. Last season OU advanced to the NCAA Championship for the fourth time in the last five years. The Sooners made the NCAA Championship by finishing third in the NCAA Central Regional, their highest finish since they tied for first in 2001.

Leading coach Jim Ragan’s squad this season will be All-American and NCAA Freshman of the Year Anthony Kim. Kim spent his summer preparing for the upcoming fall campaign by winning the Northeast Amateur title and competing in the U.S. Amateur Open.

Kim will be joined by fellow All-American Carlos Del Moral. The returning sophomore was also named to the All-Region Team last season after recording four top 15 finishes.

Senior Craig Lurie, junior Brodie Flanders, and freshman Phillip Bryan round out Oklahoma’s starting five for the tournament.

Rankings
The 2003-2004 season ended with a successful postseason run that helped OU climb to 18th in the GolfWeek poll. Oklahoma is primed to climb the rankings again this year with the return of All-Americans Carlos Del Moral and Anthony Kim. The Sooners begin the 2004-2005 ranked 22nd in the men’s GolfWorld magazine poll.
