NORMAN, Okla. -- Senior Marie-Pier Huet and sophomore Whitney Ritchie will represent OU women's tennis at the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 3-6, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Huet and Ritchie won the Central Region doubles championship on Oct. 24 in Tulsa, Okla., to clinch a spot in the indoor national championship tournament.  The OU duo is one of 20 teams that qualified for the championship.

As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.

Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists and singles quarterfinalists from the ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.

Huet and Ritchie will play Ana Belzunce and Welma Luus of Maryland in the Round of 32 to open the tournament on Thursday, Nov. 3, beginning at 8 a.m. CT.

Belzunce and Luus won the Atlantic Region Championship to qualify for nationals.

Huet and Ritchie played in their first tournament as a doubles pair at regionals.  The duo won four straight matches to win OU's third doubles regional titles in as many seasons.

This is the first appearance at National Indoor Championships for both Sooners.
