Blake Martin Fires Career-Low Round at Waikoloa Intercollegiate

HILO, Hawaii - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team completed first round action at the Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Hilo, Hawaii, in 16th place on Wednesday. The Sooners finished out the day with a team score of 295 (+17) at the par-72, 7,074-yard Kings' Golf Course. Georgia Tech is the team leader after the first day of play with a score of 281 (-7).

Oklahoma was led by sophomore Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) who shot a career-low 70 (-2) and is currently tied for eighth. Martin, making his first-ever start for OU, is only three shots off the lead.

Junior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) posted a 74 to stand tied for 60th. Senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.) is tied for 65th after carding a 75 and sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) shot a first-round 76 and is tied for 85th. Sophomore Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) rounded out the scoring for OU with a 78.

OU begins second-round play Thursday morning at 6:45 a.m. (10:45 CST).
