Ionut Beleleu Advances to Quarterfinals

TULSA, Okla. – Junior Ionut Beleleu advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA/Wilson Regional Championships main draw, Saturday, hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Beleleu began the day defeating Dino Bilankov of Minnesota, 7-6, 6-1. He followed that performance defeating No. Matt Hogan of Arkansas, 6-2, 6-3.

Two other Sooners, sophomore George Chanturia and freshman Chris Fotopoulos, played in today’s main draw as well. 

Chanturia won his first match over Tulsa’s Philip Stephens, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6. Chanturia's win over Stephens, No. 65 nationally, marked the highest ranked win of his career. However, Chanturia did not fair as well in his second match as he fell to Minnesota’s Tobias Wernet.

Fotopoulos fell in his first match of the day to Wichita State’s Vlad Marinescu, 6-1, 6-1.

In back draw action Blake Boswell advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating UMKC’s Gustavo Guerin and Western Illinois’ Jeff Cote.
