NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior forward Caitlin Mooney was named the Big 12 Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Aug. 29 - Sept. 4.

The Edmond, Okla., native shared the offensive honors with Oklahoma State’s Krista Lopez.  Alexa Gaul (Texas) and Ingrid Vidal (Kansas) were named the league’s top defender for the week and newcomer of the week, respectively.

It marked the second career honor for Mooney, who was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Oct. 12, 2010. She is the first Sooner to collect a weekly honor in 2011.

Mooney had an impressive weekend after she posted seven points (two goals and three assists) in two games, including Friday’s 4-1 win over Oral Roberts when she tied two program records.  In that game, Mooney contributed on all four Sooner goals and tied two OU records with two assists and six points.  Only two other Sooners in program history have posted six points in a game, the No. 1 and No. 2 all-time leading scorers in Whitney Palmer (2007-10)and Logan Womack (2000-03), respectively.  Both Palmer and Womack had hat tricks in their six-point games, while Mooney is the first Sooner in school history to have two goals and two assists in a single game. Mooney’s second goal on Friday proved to be the game-winning goal, her first of 2011.  Not only did Mooney help OU snap a three-game losing streak on Friday, but she helped the offense get back on track, which had one goal during the previous three contests.

On Sunday, Mooney added her seventh point of the weekend, assisting on the game-winning goal in the Sooners’ 3-1 win over Missouri State.  Mooney fired eight shots in the two starts over the weekend, including six on goal.

Mooney leads OU with nine points and three assists and is tied for the team lead with three goals.  She ranks fifth in assists in the Big 12 Conference and sixth in both points and goals scored.

OU (3-3) faces its first full weekend of action away from home this week with a pair of non-conference games in Arizona.  On Friday, Sept. 9, OU battles Arizona State in Tempe at 6:30 p.m. CT. OU and ASU have met once previously in 2004.  The Sooners won that game, 1-0, in Tempe on Sept. 19.

On Sunday, Sept. 4, OU faces Arizona at 1 p.m. CT. in Tempe, Ariz.  The Sooners and Wildcats have meet once back in 2002.  OU won that game, 2-0, in Norman on Sept. 15.
