Women's Tennis Defeats Colorado, 5-4

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team beat conference foe Colorado, 5-4, Saturday afternoon at the Westwood Tennis Courts in Norman. With the victory, the Sooners improved to 12-9 overall and 5-6 in conference play. The Sooners have won five straight conference matches after losing six straight matches in conference play. The loss drops Colorado to 6-9 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

In singles action, the Sooners could only muster two victories in six contests. OU freshman Annette Bryntesson beat CU's Lia Dimingo, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 4 position. And freshman Melissa Mendieta came back to win a three-set match over Suzanne Bjorkman, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 5 position.

OU was able to come back strong in doubles action. At the No. 1 doubles position, juniors Viviana Mracnova and Angela Stroup dominated CU's Jessica Garrow and Dominique Lemperle, 8-3. At the No. 3 doubles position, junior Stephanie Sajbert and Bryntesson tied the match at 4-4 with their 8-5 victory over Bjorkman and Dimingo. Senior Kristen Guilford and Mendieta clinched the Sooner victory at the No. 2 doubles position with a 9-8 win over Nadine Kenzelmann and Mara Berzins. It was Guilford's last match at home as a Sooner.

Next up for Oklahoma is the Big 12 conference tournament on April 27 at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
