NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team lost to a top 15 team for the third consecutive game as No. 10 Texas defeated the Sooners, 3-1, Sunday in Austin. OU extended its winless streak to five games as it fell to 9-6-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the Big 12. With the win, the Longhorns clinched their first-ever conference title as they improved to 11-3 overall and 9-0 in Big 12 play.
For the second consecutive game, the Sooners surrendered two early goals. Just 6:40 into the match, Lerrin Biggers scored off a pass from Kelly Wilson. UT made it 2-0 in the 19th minute when Kylee Wosnuk and Kelly McDonald (assist) combined for a goal.
Wilson gave the Longhorns a 3-0 advantage at 75:04 with Nicole Berger assisting on the play.
Oklahoma managed to push a goal across at the 79:00 mark when sophomore Logan Womack tallied her 12th goal of the season. The score was OU's first in four games.
Junior goalkeeper Jana Cunningham (six saves) took the loss.
"We played another great game today. Our offense was able to penetrate their defense, giving us a ton of opportunities to score," said OU Head Coach Randy Evans. "Their goalkeeper (Shay Wilkerson), though, stepped up and made several tremendous saves."
The Sooners host rival Oklahoma State in their last Big 12 game of the season on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting Arkansas in the regular-season finale Sunday at 1 p.m. The winner of the OU-OSU game will clinch the final Big 12 Tournament spot. The tournament is set for Nov. 8-10 in San Antonio, Texas.
