NORMAN, Okla. - Experiencing the same weather conditions plaguing The Masters on Saturday, the University of Oklahoma men's golf team remained in third place in the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate at Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Ala. Players at Saugahatchee endured heavy rains during the morning and dramatic temperature drops. Later in the day, the same weather system hit Augusta National, preventing the final groups from finishing their rounds in The Masters.

"If you watched The Masters today, then you saw what conditions we played in," said head coach Gregg Grost. "It rained hard early in the morning and the weather deteriorated throughout the day."

Grost's Sooners shot 298 Saturday to crawl to within one stroke of second-place Mississippi State at 582. Tournament host Auburn leads after two rounds with a 578.

"We really played solid today, considering the conditions," said Grost. "The winds were blowing 30-35 mph all day, and we were able to knock the ball down and keep it in play."

Junior Kelsey Cline shot 72 to climb into a tie for eighth place with teammate John Kidwell. Kidwell followed yesterday's career-low round with a 77 on Saturday. Tournament leader Alex Rocha again shot the lowest round of the day with a 71 to take a nine-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round.

The Sooners will be back in action on Sunday to attempt to overtake Auburn in the final round.

"Auburn has three seniors playing here on their home course," said Grost. "It's going to be a good challenge for us to see if we can catch them."
