NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot the lowest round of the third round (286) to finish in third place with a total score of 859 (+19) at the 11th annual Maxwell Intercollegiate in Ardmore, Okla. It was OU's fifth top-five finish of the year and second in as many tournaments.

"I thought we played awfully good today," said Head Coach Jim Ragan. "We got off to a little bit of a slow start but we got it back and we played some really good holes out there today. We had some putts that could have fallen for us that didn't but those things happen."

Senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.) and junior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) led the way for the Sooners tying for second place with a final score of 209 (-1). Kidwell fired a one-under 69 in the third round while Freeman carded a one-over 71.

I'm especially proud of John and Cody for stepping up and doing what they were capable of today," said Ragan. "I think we'll be taking this momentum into regional's next week."

Kidwell finished in second place for the second straight tournament while posting his third top-five finish of the season. It was also Freeman's second straight top-five finish and the fifth time this season he has finished in the top 10.

"I think I played really well considering I took a couple of days off to finish school prior to this tournament," said Kidwell. "I struggled a little bit with my driver and I missed a few putts coming in but overall I'm happy about my play this weekend."

OU sophomore Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) posted the highest finish of his career as a Sooner tying for 22nd. Manor shot a third-round 73 for a total of 219 (+9). Sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) shot his second straight 73 of the tournament to tie for 35th while junior Matt Cohn (La Jolla, Calif.) finished one shot back with a final-round 76 to tie for 39th.

Competing for OU's second team, J.D. Robertson (Little Rock, Ark.) posted a final-round 69 to tie for 20th overall with a final score of 218 (+8). It was his second top-20 finish of the season. Sophomore Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) and junior Parker Foster (Tulsa, Okla.) each carded third-round scores of 75. Martin finished tied for 39th while Foster tied for 48th. Ardmore native Bridger Cox shot a final-round 76 to tie for 56th while redshirt freshman Brad Purcell (Norman, Okla.) shot a 74 to finish 58th.

The Sooners now turn their attention to the NCAA Central Regional which is scheduled to be played on May 16-18 at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Ark.
