Womens Golf In Third Place After First Round At Big 12

The No. 17 Oklahoma women’s golf team fired a first-round 299 and is in third place at the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas.  The Sooners trail first-round leader Texas by seven strokes.

The tournament is being held at the 6,242-yard, par-72 Pebble Creek Golf Course.

Senior Lisa Meldrum, last week’s Susie Maxwell Berning Classic champion, is tied for fourth after shooting an even-par 72.  Senior Hope Edge carded a two-over-par 74 and is tied for ninth heading into the second round.  Junior Emily Milberger is tied for 13th after recording a first-round 75 (+3) while freshman Jaclyn Stelzer is tied for 32nd with a six-over par 78.  Sophomore Amparo Gala carded a 79 (+7) and is tied for 40th after round one.

Last year, the Sooners finished fourth at the Big 12 Championships which were held in Columbia, Mo.

The Sooners will begin second-round play Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
